THE FOLLOWING CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ISSUED BY
HRH RAJA REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH OF JAFFNA

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburg ascended to the throne in 1952, becoming Queen Elizabeth II, following the death of her father, King George VI. The Queen Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and other Commonwealth Realms.

The late Sovereign Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II was Queen of Ceylon from 1952-1972 and the Queen had visited Sri Lanka twice in 1954 and 1981. The Queen Elizabeth II reigned with grace and dignity, and she became the longest reigning British monarch in history and the longest-serving Head of State in the world.

Her Majesty was the most remarkable queen in the world who was widely admired, appreciated, and dedicated her whole life to the service of Great Britain and the Commonwealth.

The Queen inspired several generations and faithfully performed her duties on behalf of the nation. Her Majesty leaves behind a magnificent legacy.

On behalf of the people of Sri Lanka, members of the Royal Family of Jaffna and myself, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to Your Majesty and the members of the Royal Family, the Government, to the people of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Nations at this difficult time.
