During a telephone conversation this morning with the Sri Lankan Army Authorities in Jaffna, regarding the incident that took place on 27 November 2012 at the University of Jaffna. I have requested the Authorities to bring the situation under control. It has been brought to my attention that there are people trying to disturb the peace and stability of the country. Disturbing the peace is a crime generally and those who would try to disturb the peace of the country should be punished by law.

Lasting peace cannot be achieved through violence or confrontational politics. Everlasting peace can only be achieved through a process of genuine consultation, understanding, and consensus. If we work together, I am sure we can achieve this goal.

I ask all the people to stay calm and may peace be with you all!
