His Royal Highness Prince Remigius Kanagarajah has been a member of the Regional and International Red Cross for the past sixteen years. He has helped disabled children and adults. He has given them advice and training to show them the ways and means by which they could lead useful lives without, however, feeling depressed or unloved in societies far too occupied with other matters. In his capacity as a Counsellor, he has visited numerous hospitals, in Sri Lanka, Africa and The Netherlands. He also helps people with various social and psychological problems, for example, people with marital problems and teenagers struggling for an identity. He is a qualified paramedic, and he has served on Board the Cruise Ship J. Henry Dunant in the Netherlands.

During the period following the Indo–Sri Lanka Peace Accord, he was sent to Jaffna as a representative of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. Later, he was appointed by the Indian Red Cross as a Coordinating Officer (Administration) for the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. After four years of experience there, he was seconded to work in many other countries. During his stay in Jaffna, he was in charge of administering the activities of the Red Cross, and tracing missing persons, and instituting food distribution to refugees in different areas of Jaffna. Over and above these activities, he was also a part of the medical team which carried out hospital rounds and visited the sick and the wounded. He also met with international and local delegates on a regular basis in order to discuss the problems and requirements in the North and East part of Sri Lanka during hostilities.

He was a member of Amnesty International. He has been happy to assist Amnesty International on numerous occasions. H.R.H. Prince Remigius Kanagarajah has on several occasions provided funds for causes which, without his help, would struggle to survive.

He has thus lived and worked in various countries and has acquired some very valuable experience in dealing with people at large and especially in Sri Lanka.
